A word straight out of science fiction. Mark Zuckerberg has something in mind for the future of humanity and Facebook’s role in it. A few months ago, the CEO told his employees that the future of his business will go beyond building a set of multiple connected social networks (including Instagram and WhatsApp) and the hardware to use them. He was looking to create something called the ?metaverse?, a practically unknown word which, coming from the mouth of one of the richest men in the world, brings to mind Terminator. But it’s not something that comes out of a sci-fi movie … or maybe it is. the metaverse is seen as a set of ?maximalist and interconnected user experiences?, but what can that mean? Currently, Facebook’s divisions are focused on creating products for communities, commerce, creators, and a virtual reality world, and according to Mark Zuckerberg, ?the larger goal through these initiatives is to bring the metaverse to life. ?.

Mark Zuckerberg and the ?metaverse?

?Metaverse? is not a word coined by Mark Zuckerberg, it was first used in Neal Stephenson’s novel, Snow Crash, published in 1992, to designate a convergence of physical, augmented and virtual realities in a shared online space. The book focuses on a man named Hiro, a programmer and pizza delivery man who enters the metaverse through google and his headset. In 2020, Matthew Ball published an essay showcasing the keys to identifying a metaverse, noting that it must involve both the physical and virtual worlds, have a complete economy, and provide unprecedented interoperability, users being able to transport their avatars and their possessions from one place to another of the metaverse. This does not mean, however, that Facebook will be the owner and master of this new universe, but that it will be centrally controlled by different actors. Mark Zuckerberg wants to get ahead in order to have a more immediate presence in these worlds.

We are already well prepared for a metaverse complex. The eyeglasses used by the protagonist of Snow Crash could be the Oculus glasses, which are actually owned by Facebook (along with other virtual reality glasses on the market), and there are already virtual spaces in which people can coexist with others, operating under virtual currencies (based on real currencies or cryptocurrencies), and augmented reality is already used in many video games, as well as in the world of virtual reality. It is only a matter of time before we enter the metaverse, a parallel universe to ours in virtual format. Some consider the game Second Life, in 2003, as one of the first steps towards the metaverse. Eighteen years later, progress offers a clearer path.

According to Mark Zuckerberg, the metaverse will offer opportunities to creators and artists or to people who wish to work remotely, far from urban centers. the metaverse could help connect people around the world, even when they are apart, which is the main mission of Facebook since start. In particular, the CEO envisions a virtual place where people can access education and live with other people without needing to be in the same space.

Although no official announcement has yet been made regarding new platforms or plans to bring the metaverse to life, it will undoubtedly be one of Facebook’s main lines of work for the next few years and could define how which humanity uses the internet.

30-year-old Filipino weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, competing at the Tokyo Olympics in the under 55 kilograms category, yesterday became the first athlete from her country to win a gold medal, lifting 127 kilograms. Already a silver medalist at the Rio Olympics in 2016, Hidilyn Diaz broke her personal best. In Manila, the capital of the Philippines, it is certainly time to party, but not as much as on the island of Mindanao, where the athlete is from. Her mother, Emelita Diaz, told AFP they ?exploded with joy?, ?screamed?, and ?cried with joy?. During eighteen months of training in Malaysia, where she was stranded due to health restrictions far from her family, she had to create a gym and makeshift weights as in the video below in order to continue to train.

In the end, the weightlifter made her entire nation proud, and so it was only natural that another illustrious Filipino athlete, boxer Manny Pacquiao, greeted the Olympian on Twitter: ?Thank you Hidilyn Diaz for this very first medal of the year. gold for the Philippines! We are so proud of you! ?. Not content with offering him national recognition, his country offered him a second reward: the astronomical sum of 555,000 euros (33 million Philippine pesos), in a country where the average salary does not exceed 250 euros, was offered. by the authorities as well as a handful of private companies, according to Bloomberg. One-third of the money comes from the state and is guaranteed to any athlete bringing home gold, and the rest comes from Filipino businessmen who were keen to make a gesture.

But that’s not all. Other businessmen also announced today that they plan to give Hidilyn Diaz two private residences. One, a house, in the chic and touristy municipality of Tagaytay in the north of the country, offered by the president of the Olympic committee of the Philippines and former mayor of Tagaytay Abraham Tolentino; and the other, an apartment in a luxury resort in the former capital Quezon City, offered by billionaire Andrew Lim Tam through his real estate company Megaworld Corporation.

?It’s amazing, it’s a dream come true,? Hidilyn Diaz told AFP. ?I want to tell the younger Filipino generations that they too can dream of gold. I started with this dream myself and made it happen. I can’t wait to enjoy life again as I spent almost two years stuck in Malaysia, so I’m very happy to finally be able to come home to celebrate with my family and the people who support me ?, a- she concluded.

Once upon a time there was Merano, the best kept secret of footballers, policy makers and star entrepreneurs. At the origin of healthy Palace-style retreats, there was Merano, a place for insiders nestled in Italian Tyrol, which has become a must-see between two football transfer windows, State summits or red carpet. In 2021, the address is more than ever The Place to be! Forbes went to the discovery of the “Merano miracle”.

What makes Palace Merano a special place?

Maximilian Newiger : It is undoubtedly our visionary side to have had the ambition to become the first ?Palace? hotel dedicated to health. An ?out of the box? idea at the start of 2000? palaces were the last places in the world where we wanted to hear about detox, wellness and nutritional coaching! But to understand this philosophy, we have to go back to the origins in 1906 when the address was inaugurated. The establishment has seen generations of aesthetes come to enjoy the fresh air of the Italian Tyrol region, nature and the five-star services of Palace Merano like Sissi the Empress. This major holiday resort frequented by the European aristocracy was a place where people came to “take a break”, to recharge their batteries in an idyllic region. Here, nature is everywhere: there are rivers in abundance, forests, vineyards, apple trees, green walks in hilly paths, botanical gardens … There is an Alpine-Mediterranean atmosphere characterized by peaks snow-capped trees enthroned on the horizon behind palm trees and exotic plants! A unique village with an Italian and Austrian soul. Thus, this setting inspired the locals to a very balanced way of life.

We therefore took this direction to share this miracle with our guests by developing a 100% well-being experience under the supervision of the late Henri Chenot. In Merano, we considered very early on that health is a heritage that requires continuous investment to be preserved, to strengthen its immune defenses, its physical and cognitive performance, but also to promote longevity and better aging. Our method, based on energy medicine, organic detoxification, aesthetic care, supported by physical activity, quickly met its audience among high-level athletes and entrepreneurs. For fifteen years, we have recorded 70% of loyal customers. It’s a lot.

Do you manage to maintain this figure of 70% despite the emergence of new entrants in this market?

M.N : Our tailor-made and proven approach carries this confidence. We do not need any marketing, since word of mouth is, in the end, what has the most impact! At Palace Merano, in addition to the culture of results which particularly interests athletes and captains of industry, there is also a sense of ?real? dialogue. Let me explain: all our health professionals are mobilized to make each program a success in order to find our guests, cure after cure, always in better condition. This goes through the duty to say things, even if it means sometimes provoking resistance! If a person persists in excess, does not apply the teachings of our protocols, the results will not be optimized. We have a very demanding clientele and our duty is to make them receptive to our messages as well. 3/4 of our guests book their next stay before even leaving! They ask to reside in the same room, to be followed by the same doctor and to find the same supervision. But, more than anything, the family side makes this address their home.

In fact, I encourage employees to be themselves, Merano is the sum of genuine, dedicated and caring personalities. We enter into people’s lifestyle, into their privacy, so it is important to create a unique bond between team members and hosts.

In the midst of this Italian splendor, this gilding, these chandeliers and this marble, you advocate something very down-to-earth …

M.N : Absolutely. There is no reason to compromise between comfort and simple pleasures. When a Middle Eastern princess asks us to prepare a chauffeur-driven vehicle for a ride, we don’t hesitate to recommend that she explore the surroundings on foot with a guide. On his return, the reaction is often very enthusiastic! There is something magical about the pleasure of going for a country walk in one of the most beautiful natural settings there is, of putting your body in motion! Regardless of nationality, our hikes are extremely successful. The Palace Merano is the connection to a destination from a legendary address.

It’s so abstract, the concept of “energy medicine”, it’s not easy to understand on the first try. One of your practitioners, Marie-Pierre Grenier, also gives conferences on this subject. Enlighten us.

Dr Massimiliano Mayrhofer, dit Dr Max : By combining traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine, we aspire to offer the best combination to improve general health. Through bioenergy check-ups that measure the level of the body’s vital functions and energy flows, body composition assessments, we map the body with surgical precision. Thanks to unique electrostimulation techniques, advanced scanners, we measure vascular age, bone density, subcutaneous and visceral fat, emotional stress … In this way, we can locate weaknesses and anticipate trends in the process of weighing on the metabolism. Energy medicine allows us to understand the communication between the different organic functions, closely linked to each other by a current of energy, called ?chi? or ?Qi?. According to this principle, the disease results from blockages or energy imbalances. It is therefore necessary to restore harmony within these energy flows by targeted treatments (acupuncture – without needles but by radiofrequency – massages of the tendino-muscular meridians, hydrotherapy, phyto-mud therapy, etc.). All of this is accompanied by individualized nutritional and sports support. Objective: to support all the regenerative functions of the body. We champion the idea of ??a healthy body in a healthy mind, both are intrinsic.

Do these guests who come back regularly have to have higher expectations each time?

Dr Max : We are constantly challenged. You might be ready to spend the money the first time, to give it a try. But, if the results and the service aren’t there, you won’t come back! The loyal customer must be able to say: ” You have become even better! “. To achieve this level of satisfaction, we never take anything for granted.

What place for technology in your offer?

Dr Max : Machines are first and foremost a support and not a solution. We are sufficiently infused with technology on a daily basis, aren’t we? I think that we can never replace the osteopath with a machine, however we must closely follow scientific research, the latest technological innovations to combine human touch and high tech. We therefore invest regularly in this area by providing each department with the latest equipment. This is very true in our aesthetic medicine center: a sector that is evolving very quickly with ever more precise machines that we acquire for the benefit of our customers. Because at Palace Merano, we are committed to ensuring that they find the best on the market.

On the other hand, we will never be an address focused on everything technological. We leave that to others. A ‘fashionable’ machine today will be outdated tomorrow. In the same niche, if the trend is towards massage sprinkled with chocolate, we are not going to convert to it. It is not us.

How impacted are you by the global pandemic?

M.N : The impact, we felt it when we were forced to close because of the containment. But, as soon as we reopened, the regulars quickly returned to Merano. More surprisingly, we observe a younger clientele: they are couples, friends who also want to press the pause button, recharge their batteries. They also realize that “we are all aging” even if they are still far from being concerned! They aspire to improve their hygiene of life, to apply now our precepts in order to boost their immunity and to approach in the best way the next cycles of their life. This new reality inspired us to create an application that will soon replace the individualized health booklet given to guests upon their arrival. In this binder, we bring together the various diagnoses and analyzes for optimal monitoring. Soon, it will be possible to opt for this format or to choose the digital version via the application. In this case, the advantage is that you can share certain results with another doctor wherever you are. In addition, we will strengthen the remote monitoring of our customers.

Are you planning other locations?

M.N : Maybe in the future, but for now, it is not in our priorities. We welcome around 90 nationalities. We receive people from Australia, New Zealand? obviously, we can’t help but question their motivations, why Merano? Don’t they have a place like that in their continent? They tell us that word of mouth has reached them! These guests, like the South Americans, ask us to open a Merano at their place, but it is not easy. We want to focus on Palace Merano, and continue to consolidate our leadership. We have a lot of creative ideas on this topic. So far we have always resisted foot calls to open a Merano elsewhere. To the many ?delegations? who came to see us in the Italian Tyrol, we have always told them that it was not just a question of investing money, of building a beautiful building. No, it’s much more than that! We have built the excellence of our standards and our staff over the past twenty years. The majority of employees have worked here for at least fifteen years. In this sector, it’s unprecedented! We have built a unique ecosystem which makes Merano an exceptional address.

The fact that the world’s deepest swimming pool is in Dubai confirms what we have known for a long time: this territory is hyperbolic and egocentric. The City of Excess loves headlines glorifying its latest record. And his appetite for international acclaim continues unabated. The United Arab Emirates to which it belongs have accumulated 426 Guinness World Records, including 34 in 2020 alone, according to the newspaper Dubai Khaleej Times. Of course, Dubai takes the lion’s share, with around 60% of the country’s titles. Some records are more eccentric, like the ?fastest men’s marathon in football gear?, set by Australian Alistair Kealty in 2019, crossing the finish line in three hours, 33 minutes and 42 seconds with his helmet, and all accessories. Or the ?greatest synchronized dance of cars?, in which, as if they were Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, 180 vehicles performed a choreography organized by Nissan in a rugby stadium, in which they ?sketched? the silhouette of a falcon, the national bird of the Emirates.

Dubai’s penchant for luxury is also reflected in the Guinness Book of Records with the largest box of caviar (50.08 kilos) consumed by guests at a New Year’s Eve gala dinner, and the highest five-star hotel, the Gevora (528 rooms, 75 floors, 356 meters high). But it was still too little to entertain the wealthy inhabitants of this place on the map. The most recent is the opening in its territory of the deepest swimming pool in the world, with 60 meters and a capacity of 14 million liters of fresh water (a volume of six Olympic swimming pools), which stole the record at Deepspot from Poland (just over 45 meters). It is located in the new Deep Dive Dubai attraction, which presents a flooded city for divers of all skill levels, from beginners to professionals. Temperature controlled, exclusive access (for now) and 56 security cameras: it’s the deepest pool in the world.

The company that runs Deep Dive Dubai indicates in a press release that it is an ?abandoned cityscape with an apartment, a garage and a games room, among other surprises?, where scuba diving lessons- marine and snorkeling are organized. There are also two underwater habitats with a chamber at six and 21 meters, a hyperbaric chamber with a capacity of 12 people which should open at the end of the year, a dive shop, a souvenir shop, a restaurant for 80 people with large windows to see what is being prepared in the swimming pool and spaces for meetings and events.

A trip to Saint-Tropez is always a good idea. Very busy in July and August, even this year, the iconic summer destination in the south of France is also pleasant off-season. In Saint-Tropez, you will always find a new place that will make you want to come back year after year.

Where to stay?

The legendary Hotel La Ponche reopened its doors at the start of the summer in the historic heart of Saint-Tropez. Overlooking the small beach of La Ponche, the 5-star hotel, now open all year round, has been reimagined by Fabrizio Casiraghi. Hôtel La Ponche and Saint-Tropez are one: this emblematic hotel from the 50s and 60s welcomed Brigitte Bardot, Roger Vadim, Romy Schneider, Boris Vian, Françoise Sagan and many more. Simone Duckstein, whose parents founded the hotel in 1938, entrusted the management of it to two discreet families: the Saltier and the Saier. These two families will continue the adventure of this sentimental ?Saint-Tropez? institution, going from eight rooms in 1957 to 21 rooms today (including five suites), all bearing the names of their famous visitors. Inside the small hotel, we find memories of the days of intellectual cinema of the new wave, when life seemed happy and free.

Visitors will be transported by the Provençal tones and the southern summer atmosphere. Inside the hotel, the original structures have not been affected. The interior designer has managed to preserve the soul of this establishment.

On the legendary terrace, the young chef Thomas danigo offers a Mediterranean menu with fresh ingredients such as the fish of the day and simple recipes. Intimate, comfortable, artistic and airy, the Hotel La Ponche is the ideal place to enjoy Saint-Tropez by the sea in a historic place.

What to put in your suitcase?

A signed summer outfit Maria of the Order. Parisian by adoption, Maria de La Orden offers timeless and modern collections. Delicate and sensitive, the summer collection is full of bright colors like pink, yellow, purple and orange that recall the southern sun. All of these hues are bright and easy to wear and match. Dresses and caftans are made with light cottons and soft linens. A favorite ? The signature dress of the season! Inspired by the French Mediterranean beaches, the white and pink striped mini dress, the model MDLO X ANJA DRESS is airy and its wide long sleeves are perfect for protecting the skin from the sun.

Arizona Love summer sandals. The founder of the brand, Leslie HalfonArizona Love said after a trip to the Grand Canyon. Inspired by the American West, the brand combines vintage and bohemian influences and recalls cacti, arid deserts and road trips. The Trekky sandals are very comfortable for everyday life. Each model is unique. Handcrafted in France, the brand uses vintage recycled cotton bandanas (you can choose your favorite color) and the sandals are adorned with seashells, pearls and chains. Sandals are regularly out of stock, so try to be ahead of the season to make sure you have a pair. Their little extra? They do not come in a shoebox to minimize the ecological footprint, but in a bandana pouch.

Mental health is a big topic that should be of concern to everyone, especially now that we are emerging from a pandemic that has kept us home for months and has brought to light issues such as burnout, functional depression and all the problems that many people face in silence.

Maybe we are caught in our own trap, but the point is that mental health is a sensitive topic that still requires a lot of openness, a lot of conversation, and a lot of understanding. What is clear is that there are many small actions that can be done each day to protect her and ensure that we lead happier lives overall.

One of these is the famous “pyramid of nature”, also known as the “20-5-3 rule”, which indicates how much time to spend outdoors and in nature. to reduce stress levels and be in better physical and mental health .

What is the 20-5-3 rule?

It is basically a calendar of time spent outdoors. According to Mind.org, “Spending time in nature has been found to help with mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. For example, research on ecotherapy (a type of formal treatment which involves outdoor activities in nature) has been shown to help with mild to moderate depression. This may be due to the combination of regular physical activity and social contact with being outside.

In addition, being exposed to natural light can help control seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which is a type of depression that occurs at certain times of the year, usually when the sun is less.

20 minutes

The first point of the nature pyramid refers to 20 minutes, which is the time you should spend outside in nature at least 3 times a week (it doesn’t have to be a forest, it can be in the park near you). Rachel Hopman, Ph.D., a neuroscientist at Northeastern University, conducted a study that found that 20 minutes in a garden or park can improve cognitive abilities and memory, while increasing feelings of good. -being (and reducing the production of stress hormones), as long as you don’t have your phone with you, as this will ruin the effect.

Why is this happening? The brain goes into a mode called “soft fascination” when we are in nature. It is a state of repair that allows you to develop the resources you need to think, concentrate, and go about your daily business. It is as if you were doing a meditation session, but not sitting down or meditating.

5 hours

The second point refers to 5 hours, which is the minimum time you should spend in semi-wilderness each month, whether in a forest, a national park, or on your favorite hiking trail.

According to a Finnish study, spending five or more hours in nature helped city dwellers feel happier and cope with the stress levels of the daily routine, even helping them feel more relaxed. This is believed to be because the patterns found in nature have a calming power on the brain, which is not the case with the patterns of buildings and houses in cities.

Sounds, smells and sunlight are a kind of antidote to the problems that arise from overwork, traffic and routine.

3 days

Finally, the top of the pyramid refers to 3 days, which are the days that you should spend each year disconnecting in a natural environment, either walking or traveling to a place where the network is not so good and where office mails can’t pursue you.

This helps your brain recreate the waves that occur during meditation, which helps fight exhaustion, increase creativity, and leave you feeling good. One study even found that it can help you deal with PTSD-related issues, according to author Michael Easter in his book The Comfort. Crisis : Embrace Discomfort to Reclaim Your Wild, Happy, Healthy Self.

When the cold arrives, this art of doing nothing becomes a real trend!

Spoiling, chilling or taking it easy isn’t just laziness. It is a real art of living. Yes Yes ! And it even has a name: nesting. A word taken from English which means “to make one’s nest”. Close to this Danish art of living called Hygge, this practice highlighted by the Spanish daily El Pais is all the rage. But what is it really all about?

Nesting: the ideal wellness practice as winter approaches

Our society is more and more stressed, in a hurry and preoccupied with the eyes of others, nesting is asserting itself as a real anti-stress. As a result, staying at home is almost becoming more fashionable than going out. And COVID-19 will only encourage this way of life in 2020!

The principle is therefore to create cohesion with our interior and to disconnect from the outside world. As in its cozy nest. Afraid to be bored? No risk, there are always things to do at home! What do you think of an atmospheric light, a background of Zen music and some scented bouges, added to that a good bath. We can see it already!

Another alternative; Cozy nest + Netflix = pure happiness. The most dynamic why not get started in gardening or the bravest among us in DIY. You may not know it, but decorating your interior plays an important role. If you have to stay locked in either to do things well, opt for a small bright corner, with luxurious and cozy aspects.

Is it all good for you? Then ; On your marks ! Ready ! Chill

Are you a negative person? It can be exhausting, frustrating, and the reason you are not confident in yourself. The good news is that there is a solution (no, it’s not a lobotomy), in the form of a series of simple tricks recommended by psychologists. It is a reality: we ourselves are our worst critics. Hatred of others definitely affects us (in terms of self-esteem, confidence, and image), but no one judges us more harshly than the voices in our heads that are there even if you don’t open the comments of an application. Being a negative person means that you always find something bad to criticize, that you tend to think that you are not good at what you do, that nothing is going to be right and that the worst-case scenario imaginable is going to happen eventually, which is very demotivating, and can skyrocket your levels stress and anxiety and quickly push you to burnout and mental exhaustion. It is sometimes very difficult to see The Positive Side things, especially if they don’t turn out the way we imagined, but being negative won’t get you anywhere, it won’t help you with your problems, and it will only make you feel worse and worse.

Can negativity be fought?

According to psychologists, there are a number of tips and actions you can take to turn the situation around and be a little more positive (or less hateful) towards yourself.

Give it a name

It is to give an identity to your inner critic. This is what will help you separate that negative voice from your own identity, so that you can stop it when you are going through a time when you absolutely do not need this hate.

Play with your thoughts

try turn them into a song, to see the words in a funny font in your mind, or even to turn them into a drawing or comic book, it will make them lighter and easier to manage.

The elastic thing

You’ve probably seen it in many movies, it involves place a rubber band around your wrist and pull it lightly when you have Negative thoughts. It helps you come out of that negative day and come back to presence in the present moment, without getting lost in all of that negativity. It also helps you take back control of your thoughts.

End with an ?and?

This is a trick from improv comedy, which is simply to add an ?and? after the negative thought, for example: ?I’m never going to make it, and??. It works because it helps you recognize the thought and reverse the dialogue, ending the sentence with something useful, a solution or a more positive idea, for example ?I messed up this job? and I can work with my team to fix it?.

Don’t hang on

It is normal to have Negative thoughts, but don’t let a single one of them become your mood for the day. Recognize when you have such a thought, accept it, and focus on something more important, the task at hand, or even something that you are looking forward to. If something is beyond your control, thinking about it won’t change it.

Power statements

It is not aboutpositive affirmations, but a way to remind yourself of some key, concrete things when you go through a negative moment, for example ?you know you can do it? or ?the boss’s cries are a reflection of his character, not yours?. You can place these statements in the form of notes in visible places, so that you can remember them whenever you need to. This is not an inspirational phrase, but a real message that helps you refocus on what is important.

Create a playlist

The good music can motivate you (it’s even said that it can make you workout harder or be better in bed), as well as reduce anxiety and improve your mood, so it’s important to have a playlist of music that makes you feel better.

Compliment someone else

It helps you clear your mind and refocus on the real world. Plus, acts of kindness to others have been shown to make you feel better all the time.
