After 106 episodes, six seasons and gallons? worth of shed tears worldwide, This Is Us is coming to an end. Since its debut in 2016, the timeline-twisting, heartstrings-pulling family drama has been a ratings and critical hit. As well as making stars out of the actors playing its central siblings ? Sterling K Brown, Justin Hartley and Chrissy Metz ? the show has been praised for its considered portrayal of grief, transracial adoption and mental health, and has the awards to show for it (four Emmys, two SAG Awards and a Golden Globe). Yet there?s an element of This Is Us that is often overlooked, and long overdue for recognition: one-time pop star turned actor and singer-songwriter Mandy Moore, who gives the performance of a lifetime as family matriarch Rebecca Pearson.

This Is Us tells the long, decades-hopping story of the Pearsons, a family originally comprised of married couple Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca, and their three children: twins Kevin (Hartley) and Kate (Metz), and adopted Randall (Brown), who was born on the same day and abandoned in the same hospital. After Jack?s sudden death in the late 1990s when the children are 18, the family are forced to reconsider their steady plans and adapt to a world without him. When we meet them in the pilot episode, it?s the mid-2010s and the ?Big Three? are all grown up, celebrating their joint 36th birthdays. Through flashbacks, the audience sees the ways in which their lives have moved on since their loss, and how Jack?s death ended up shaping their respective adulthoods.

With most of the series taking place when the triplets are grown, Moore spends a large portion of This Is Us playing their mother as an older woman, complete with grey hair, neck wrinkles and liver spots. Concept-wise, it?s a big swing: how convincing could Moore ? who is incidentally the youngest actor of the main adult cast ? truly be as a woman in her sixties and beyond? Yet viewers learnt early on that this was no ill-conceived gimmick. Moore was 32 when the series premiered, and though her first appearance in aged makeup was a surprise, more surprising still was her ability to make us believe that she?s a mother of three adults, and grandmother of two youngsters.

Rather than caricaturing age with a hunched back and croaking voice, Moore is subtle and effective. Her movements are slow and delicate, while her speech patterns evoke warmth and emotional stability. Her transformation has always been taken seriously, to the extent that you imagine her character as aged by default, no matter how familiar you are with Moore outside of the show. The combination of great makeup and great writing can only go so far; it?s Moore?s deep commitment to the role that has made the show?s use of multiple timelines a success.

When she was cast in This Is UsMoore hadn?t made an album in several years and was in need of an acting win. Despite having popular projects such as A Walk to Remember, The Princess Diaries and Tangled under her belt, she?d found herself at a standstill when it came to Hollywood. As well as this, she was nearing the end of her marriage to musician Ryan Adams, who she claimed was ?psychologically abusive? towards her (Adams later apologised for ?mistreating people? in his life and career, but has not responded to Moore?s specific allegations). Talking about her life just before scooping the role of Rebecca, Moore admitted to feeling dejected after filming pilots for proposed TV shows for four years in a row without success.

?Some came close to getting picked up but it never happened,? she told the Los Angeles Times in 2021. ?So I was starting to question if I should be in this acting game anymore at all? Did I have my moment in the sun and maybe I should go back to school? Maybe just turn back to music full-time? I was very lost.? Perhaps the fact that Rebecca came into Moore?s life at the right time has made her portrayal feel that much more special.

Despite being the character with the least amount of screen time in the pilot, Rebecca has over the course of the series been revealed as the heart of This Is Us. Like many maternal roles in film and TV, Rebecca has been the show?s quiet constant, her family taking centre stage while she supports them from the sidelines. For a lesser performer, this may have translated as being forgettable, easily fading into the background. Yet by fleshing out her character as a whole person, complete with dreams and desires of her own, Moore makes Rebecca a quiet force. As an actor, she is guaranteed to bring depth or lightness wherever it?s required.

Outside of her aged-up scenes, Moore has given some of the series? most powerful acting performances while looking simply like herself. One of the best examples of this takes place in season two episode ?Super Bowl Sunday?, where Jack suffers a heart attack and dies after a house fire. When Rebecca is told the news by a doctor, her initial reaction is bewildered denial. She charges into Jack?s hospital room to see the truth for herself. With her husband?s body on the bed in front of her, Rebecca freezes in place. Her face flickers between several emotions before she finally breaks down and falls to the floor. Moore?s display of total, instant heartbreak is gutting, and stays with you long after the episode ends.

Towards the end of the series, elder Rebecca is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer?s. It begins as not being able to remember the occasional word mid-sentence. It then develops into Rebecca forgetting the names of family members and mistaking her adult son Kevin for Jack, long after he?d passed away. Moore?s care in showing the devastation of losing mental and physical faculties gives the other characters the fuel to react, strengthening the cast as a whole. While getting the pain of the situation across is a group effort, it wouldn?t have been possible without a completely convincing performance to inspire it.

The series? final episodes have been a reminder of just how great the show has been as a whole. This current season has been a celebration of the characters? journeys, and a cathartic conclusion to a family tale spanning generations. Though it?s made up of many parts, This Is Us wouldn?t have been the same show without Moore?s consistently stellar work. She?s yet to receive any awards for her acting, but it will be a tremendous oversight if the next cycle of ceremonies counts her out. True, some have dismissed the show as being too soapy or melodramatic. But to underestimate it, and Moore, is to miss out on one of the best acting performances in the past 10 years.

Tactile sensation is an incredibly important part of how humans perceive their reality. Haptics or devices that can produce extremely specific vibrations that can mimic the sensation of touch are a way to bring that third sense to life. However, as far as haptics have come, humans are incredibly particular about whether or not something feels ?right,? and virtual textures don?t always hit the mark.

Now, researchers at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering have developed a new method for computers to achieve that true texture ? with the help of human beings.

Called a preference-driven model, the framework uses our ability to distinguish between the details of certain textures as a tool in order to give these virtual counterparts a tune-up.

The research was published in IEEE Transactions on Haptics by three USC Viterbi Ph.D. students in computer science, Shihan Lu, Mianlun Zheng and Matthew Fontaine, as well as Stefanos Nikolaidis, USC Viterbi assistant professor in computer science and Heather Culbertson, USC Viterbi WiSE Gabilan Assistant Professor in Computer Science.

?We ask users to compare their feeling between the real texture and the virtual texture,? Lu, the first author, explained. ?The model then iteratively updates a virtual texture so that the virtual texture can match the real one in the end.?

According to Fontaine, the idea first emerged when they shared a Haptic Interfaces and Virtual Environments class back in Fall of 2019 taught by Culbertson. They drew inspiration from the art application Picbreeder, which can generate images based on a user?s preference over and over until it reaches the desired result.

?We thought, what if we could do that for textures?? Fontaine recalled.

Using this preference-driven model, the user is first given a real texture, and the model randomly generates three virtual textures using dozens of variables, from which the user can then pick the one that feels the most similar to the real thing. Over time, the search adjusts its distribution of these variables as it gets closer and closer to what the user prefers. According to Fontaine, this method has an advantage over directly recording and ?playing back? textures, as there?s always a gap between what the computer reads and what we feel.

?You?re measuring parameters of exactly how they feel it, rather than just mimicking what we can record,? Fontaine said. There?s going to be some error in how you recorded that texture, to how you play it back.?

The only thing the user has to do is choose what texture matches best and adjust the amount of friction using a simple slider. Friction is essential to how we perceive textures, and it can vary between the perceptions of person to person. It?s ?very easy,? Lu said.

Their work comes just in time for the emerging market for specific, accurate virtual textures. Everything from video games to fashion design is integrating haptic technology, and the existing databases of virtual textures can be improved through this user preference method.

?There is a growing popularity of the haptic device in video games and fashion design and surgery simulation,? Lu said. ?Even at home, we?ve started to see users with those (haptic) devices that are becoming as popular as the laptop. For example, with first-person video games, it will make them feel like they?re really interacting with their environment.?

Lu previously did other work on immersive technology, but with sound ? specifically, making the virtual texture even more immersive by introducing matching sounds when the tool interacts with it.

?When we are interacting with the environment through a tool, tactile feedback is only one modality, one kind of sensory feedback,? Lu said. ?Audio is another kind of sensory feedback, and both are very important.?

The texture-search model also allows for someone to take a virtual texture off of a database, like the University of Pennsylvania?s Haptic Texture Toolkit, and refine them until they get the result they want.

?You can use the previous virtual textures searched by others, and then based on those, you can then continue tuning it,? Lu said. ?You don?t have to search from scratch every time.?

This especially comes in handy for virtual textures that are used in training for dentistry or surgery, which need to be extremely accurate, according to Lu.

?Surgical training is definitely a huge area that requires very realistic textures and tactile feedback,? Lu said. ?Fashion design also requires a lot of precision in texture in development, before they go and fabricate it.?

In the future, real textures may not even be required for the model, Lu explained. The way certain things in our lives feel is so intuitive that fine-tuning a texture to match that memory is something we can do inherently just by looking at a photo, without having the real texture for reference in front of us.

?When we see a table, we can imagine how the table will feel once we touch it,? Lu said. ?Using this prior knowledge we have of the surface, you can just provide visual feedback to the users, and it allows them to choose what matches.?

Sometimes a horror prequel can be unnecessary, as fans feel that they have enough details, information, and backstory in order to enjoy their favorite movies and franchises. But other times, fans love spending time with these characters and worlds so much that it’s hard not to wish that there was a movie about how it all began.

From ’90s slasher movies where prequels would make a big splash to a more recent critically acclaimed one-off movie about an interesting curse, there are several horror movies that are just begging for a prequel.

With Scream being one of the most popular horror franchises ever, it would be fascinating to watch a prequel movie about Billy Loomis’s dad having an affair with Maureen Prescott. This prequel would work well since the Scream movies aren’t scary and this film wouldn’t have to be super terrifying, either.

This prequel would give fans more backstory and context about why Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) wanted to become Ghostface, and audiences could also learn more about a younger Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and her family life before the horrors of the 1996 movie happened. The best Scream movies are set in Woodsboro so no one would mind spending more time in this small town, either.

As a ’90s horror movie that is still good, I Know What You Did Last Summer has an entertaining sequel, and a prequel would be a great idea as well. While fans find out that Ben Willis (Muse Watson) is the one behind the stalking, scares, and murders, no one knows that much about him and his life before this.

While Ben Willis isn’t one of the worst horror movie villains, he isn’t one of the most unforgettable, either, and a prequel movie would give him more of a place in horror history. Fans know that Ben Willis had a wife and daughter who died, and it would be interesting to shine a light on the pain and heartbreak that he experienced, as these events made him the villain who he became.

While A Nightmare On Elm Street should get a requel, a prequel movie would also be fun and definitely something that fans of the franchise would be interested in.

Robert Englund was interviewed by SyFy and said that he would love a prequel. The actor said, “I think that the franchise probably deserves a really good prequel. There?s never been an entire movie devoted to Freddy before he was burned and the crimes and getting caught by the police and going on trial and getting away with killing children. We know that he was set free, so to me, the great part in the prequel is gonna be the lawyers, the lawyers that get him off.” Englund would like for the film to end with “the vigilante parents burning him.” This makes a lot of sense and would be a film that would add some layers to the already beloved franchise and would make Freddy Krueger seem even more fully formed.

A good prequel sets up the main story and offers up some details that aren’t in the original movie. Since It Follows is so popular, it would be smart to put out a prequel that explains more about the origins of this curse.

Fans love spending time in this supernatural world as Jay Height (Maika Monroe) becomes haunted by a figure who follows her everywhere that she goes. As fans learn that people pass on this curse to one another after sleeping together, it’s hard not to wish to see how it all began. Did this happen to another group of teenagers? Is there ever a way to stop it? Fans have a lot of questions and a prequel film could help answer them. It would also likely be just as well-done as the 2014 film, which has become one of the most well-liked horror movies of the last ten years.

Kevin Williamson wrote The Facultyone of the most exciting ’90s horror movies. Casey Connor (Elijah Wood), Zeke Tyler (Josh Hartnett), and Stokes Mitchell (Cleo Duvall) hate going to their high school everyday, and things become even stranger when they realize that aliens have taken over their teachers.

While the movie does do a great job explaining the science-fiction elements, there’s always room for even more, and fans would definitely be happy with a prequel film with even more explanation of how the teachers changed. It would be cool to learn how the alien invasion began in this tiny town in Ohio and to maybe even learn more about who the teachers were before this happened to them.

Producing the extraordinary bursts in space are celestial bodies such as neutron, or collapsed, stars called magnetars (magnet + star) enclosed in extreme magnetic fields. These fields are so strong that they turn the vacuum in space into an exotic plasma composed of matter and anti-matter in the form of pairs of negatively charged electrons and positively charged positrons, according to quantum electrodynamic (QED) theory. Emissions from these pairs are believed to be responsible for the powerful fast radio bursts.

Pair plasma

The matter-antimatter plasma, called ?pair plasma,? stands in contrast to the usual plasma that fuels fusion reactions and makes up 99% of the visible universe. This plasma consists of matter only in the form of electrons and vastly higher-mass atomic nuclei, or ions. The electron-positron plasmas are composed of equal mass but oppositely charged particles that are subject to annihilation and creation. Such plasmas can exhibit quite different collective behavior.

?Our laboratory simulation is a small-scale analog of a magnetar environment,? said physicist Kenan Qu of the Princeton Department of Astrophysical Sciences. ?This allows us to analyze QED pair plasmas,? said Qu, first author of a study showcased in Physics of Plasmas as a Scilight, or science highlight, and also first author of a paper in Physical Review Letters that the present paper expands on.

?Rather than simulating a strong magnetic field, we use a strong laser,? Qu said. ?It converts energy into pair plasma through what are called QED cascades. The pair plasma then shifts the laser pulse to a higher frequency,? he said. ?The exciting result demonstrates the prospects for creating and observing QED pair plasma in laboratories and enabling experiments to verify theories about fast radio bursts.?

Laboratory-produced pair plasmas have previously been created, noted physicist Nat Fisch, a professor of astrophysical sciences at Princeton University and associate director for academic affairs at PPPL who serves as principle investigator for this research. ?And we think we know what laws govern their collective behavior,? Fisch said. ?But until we actually produce a pair plasma in the laboratory that exhibits collective phenomena that we can probe, we cannot be absolutely sure of that.

Collective behavior

?The problem is that collective behavior in pair plasmas is notoriously hard to observe,? he added. ?Thus, a major step for us was to think of this as a joint production-observation problem, recognizing that a great method of observation relaxes the conditions on what must be produced and in turn leads us to a more practicable user facility.?

The unique simulation the paper proposes creates high-density QED pair plasma by colliding the laser with a dense electron beam travelling near the speed of light. This approach is cost-efficient when compared with the commonly proposed method of colliding ultra-strong lasers to produce the QED cascades. The approach also slows the movement of plasma particles, thereby allowing stronger collective effects.

?No lasers are strong enough to achieve this today and building them could cost billions of dollars,? Qu said. ?Our approach strongly supports using an electron beam accelerator and a moderately strong laser to achieve QED pair plasma. The implication of our study is that supporting this approach could save a lot of money.?

Currently underway are preparations for testing the simulation with a new round of laser and electron experiments at SLAC. ?In a sense what we are doing here is the starting point of the cascade that produces radio bursts,? said Sebastian Meuren, a SLAC researcher and former postdoctoral visiting fellow at Princeton University who coauthored the two papers with Qu and Fisch.

Evolving experiment

?If we could observe something like a radio burst in the laboratory that would be extremely exciting,? Meuren said. ?But the first part is just to observe the scattering of the electron beams and once we do that we?ll improve the laser intensity to get to higher densities to actually see the electron-positron pairs. The idea is that our experiment will evolve over the next two years or so.?

The overall goal of this research is understanding how bodies like magnetars create pair plasma and what new physics associated with fast radio bursts are brought about, Qu said. ?These are the central questions we are interested in.?

This joint work was supported by National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA) grants awarded to Princeton University through the Department of Astrophysical Sciences and by DOE grants awarded to Stanford University.

This week marks the big screen return of director Sam Raimiwho returns to both Marvel and the horror genre with sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

While we wait for the MCU?s first horror-heavy movie, four other genre movies are also on the way this week. And the new releases begin today, continuing into this weekend.

Here?s all the new horror arriving May 3-May 8, 2022!

First up, the survival thriller Breath has been released on VOD outlets today, May 3rd. From director John Realthis one comes courtesy of Uncork?d Entertainment.

In the film, ?Lara Winslet is an expert geologist in volcanology. She is together with her team of work on a volcano to conduct surveys. At the end of a working day, Lara decides to stay a little longer to finish an exam and she remains so alone.

?Returning, she has an accident, falling inside a hole in the ground and remains blocked inside there, where no one can see nor hear her. This experience will lead her to take an examination of her whole life and to think of her daughter.?

Adriana Marzagalli and John Real wrote the script for Breath.

the twin

The rest of the week is pretty quiet until Friday, which marks the Shudder premiere of brand new original horror movie The Twin. Shudder?s latest stars Lights Out actress Teresa Palmer.

The Twin is the new horror movie from Lake Bodom director Taneli Mustonen.

?Following the aftermath of a tragic accident that claimed the life of one of their twins, Rachel (Teresa Palmer, A Discovery of Witches, Warm Bodies) and husband Anthony (Steven Cree, A Discovery of Witches, Outlander) relocate to the other side of the world with their surviving son in the hopes of building a new life. What begins as a time of healing in the quiet Scandinavian countryside soon takes an ominous turn when Rachel begins to unravel the torturous truth about her son and confronts the malicious forces attempting to take a hold of him.?

Peter Facinelli ravine

Peter Facinelli stars alongside Eric Dane and Teri Polo in the psychological thriller The Ravinewhich BD?s parent company Cinedigm is bringing to theaters and VOD this Friday.

In the film, ?A sleepy suburb of New Orleans seems like the idyllic place to raise a family until an unspeakable crime rocks the community to its core. With more questions than answers, family and friends are left to wonder if they overlooked the murderer among them or if there might be more to the story.?

Keoni Waxman wrote and directed The Ravinebased on Robert Pascuzzi?s novel. Leslie Uggams (Deadpool), Byron Mann (Skyscraper) and Lucy Faust (Underground Railroad) co-star.

?The Ravine is inspired by true events. The horror was real, yet so was the overwhelming sense of human understanding that it brought to us. We learned and grew from it and want to share it with others,? said Robert and Kelly Pascuzzi. ?It is a story of faith, forgiveness, but most of all the restoration of hope ? even for the most seemingly unredeemable among us.?

?The Ravine takes a riveting look at the shocking violence and tragedy that can befall an outwardly flawless family,? Cinedigm?s Chief Content Officer, Yolanda Macias, said in a statement shared by Deadline. ?With exceptional performances by the film?s stellar cast, we?re sure audiences will be captivated by the twists and turns the story takes.?

?The fear is inescapable and the suspense nonstop in this gripping horror-thriller about six strangers who suddenly awaken in a remote, endless cornfield. Stripped of their possessions, they are left with only six items: a gun with a single bullet, matches, a lantern, a knife, a compass, and a flask of water. As mysterious sirens blare in the distance and traps appear at every turn, the group realizes it?s been plunged into a cat-and-mouse game with an unseen evil, and survival depends upon solving a diabolical ? and deadly ? puzzle.

Meagan writes in her review for BD, ?Raimi does surprise by testing the limits of the PG-13 rating in places. But as thrilling as seeing Strange encounter all types of horror as he races through set pieces can be, this sequel is less interested in forging new ground than repeating the same story and character beats from other MCU movies. It?s an entertaining and spooky romp and not much else. That?s okay. Especially if it brings more horror to the MCU.?

?In the last three to four weeks we have been above the sales volumes of three to four years ago“. Thus begins the chief product officer tour operating of the Alpitour group, Franco Campazzo, speaking of the latest booking trends: “Since the skies reopened, sales have been steadily increasing.” And the trend is essentially global: “Egypt is going strong on all three of its main beach destinations, Sharm, Marsa Alam and Marsa Matrouh, but Nile cruises are also doing well. There Greece and the Spain, on the other hand, they had fallen asleep a little, but now we find it hard to keep up with them. In Africa there is the case Madagascar: when we reopened we were afraid of hurting ourselves. But now we are chasing the air seats, so much so that from the end of July we already have plans for rdouble the Neos capacity with two rotations per week?.

Across the ocean, the Caribbean is serving the traditional low season. Here too, however, there are positive surprises, above all Cuba: ?After the two years of the pandemic, we feared for the quality of the facilities. Again, we therefore took our fair share of risks – adds Campazzo -. But I personally went to Fit in Varadero and I was able to touch the services of the local resorts, which have done a great job of renewing the product “. And if on the other side of the world, the East still has some precluded goals such as China, or difficult to approach such as Japan, remain the Maldives that “are going as if there is no tomorrow”. In short, after Italy and the return of the medium range, only the long haul was missing: “Now all the pieces of the puzzle are (almost) in place“, Observes Campazzo.

Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done. Furthermore, the Alpitour group is in the middle of the implementation phase of the reorganization process Trevolution: “The seamless pillar – Campazzo always reveals – is the one that moved a little later than the others, but today the Eden Viaggi brand is once again the second in the group for the number of passengers. The brand that is currently giving us more satisfaction is probably Bravo which, also thanks to the acquisition of the former Eden Villages, can now count on a portfolio of 35 villages. An offer dimension that drags sales and gives security to agencies, especially in this restart phase. In general, it seems to me that we have done a good job of differentiating the line between Bravo, SeaClub Francorosso and Alpiclub ?. Maybe something is still missing from the Ciao Clubs, Campazzo says: ?It is a hybrid product, which needs a more precise location. But we are in the first year of a complicated process and it takes time. Previous models also tended to make the mass-market product progressively more elitist. We would like to reverse the trend and reconstruct an offer suitable for all budgets and all guests “.

The pop veterans of the Pet Shop Boys also fell under the curse – they had to translate their entire concert line several times and the home fans can finally look forward to the Karlín Forum on June 8. If they want to know some spoilersthey can find out in our report what their performance in Vienna looked like.

Live: Pet Shop Boys

place: Bank Austria Halle, Vienna
datum: 12.5.2022
setlist:
Suburbia, Can You Forgive Her?, Opportunities (Let’s Make Lots of Money), Where the Streets Have No Name, Rent, I Don’t Know What You Want but I Can’t Give It Any More, So Hard, Left to My Own Devices, Single-Bilingual / Se a vida é (That’s the Way Life Is), Domino Dancing, Monkey Business, New York City Boy, You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You’re Drunk, Jealousy, Love Comes Quickly, Losing My Mind, Always on My Mind, Dreamland, Heart, It’s Alright, Vocal, What Have I Done to Deserve This?, Go West, It’s a Sin, West End Girls, Being Boring

For a young band, two years may not play such a role, but for the now 67-year-old Neil Tennant and 67-year-old Chris Low, the current tour could be the last. After all, for the original dates in 2020, they marked it as greatest hits although they released a new album “Hotspot” in January of that year. But even in 2022, they are still in power and at the second concert in a row (the first took place in Milan, Italy), which took place in Vienna’s Gasometer, they proved that live entertainment is more entertaining than ever before.

Bank Austria Halle, as the space in the former gas tank is exactly named, is only slightly larger than Prague’s Forum Karlín, it can hold about three and a half thousand spectators, and even though it was not sold out that evening, only a few fans probably lacked full capacity because it was crowded. Although most of the visitors were fans and fans of 40+, there were quite a lot of younger listeners in the audience, who had a great chance to get to know the band that evening. The Pet Shop Boys really only played hits, which is really an exception for them. Rock fans could blame the fact that it was not the turn of a single single or album delicacy, but since the pair hit the greatest hits directly into the title of the tour, it was to be expected. While a lot of bands play their fairly well-known songs and everyone is waiting for the one biggest hit, PSB definitely doesn’t have that problem. We didn’t see any lengthening of the songs and repetition of the choruses together with the audience to set the time, while Tennnat and Lowe flocked their punches one after the other. During the evening, a total of twenty-seven items were heard, while the most rocky ones could still smile at times when they inadvertently heard text excerpts of otherwise unplayed pieces such as “Discoteca” or “Paninaro”. With such a fast cadence of hits, not all of them could sound completely, the top five (the top two on the stage were completed by a singer / percussionist, singer / keyboardist and singer / percussionist / guitarist), however, left a maximum of several tens of seconds, so it was not just a short mention of songs, but rather about their more intense versions. Therefore, the space was not too much to talk about, Tennant sometimes gave a song with a short story, but the main role was played by music.

Pet Shop Boys, Bank Austria Halle, Vienna, 12.5.2022

As for the accompanying show, the Pet Shop Boys are known for their love of working with original designers and literally able to do from the fart ball. When the first few songs were played in sci-fi doctor’s coats and crazy-looking glasses in front of the big LEDs and among the street lamps, many might have thought that the whole concert would look like this. Then, of course, the LED went up and showed the rest of the stage, other musicians, the second LED area, which was across the entire width of the stage, and several more projection areas. These were used in various ways from epic to completely intimate, when in the final, fan-loved song “Being Boring”, two real lamps on stage complemented many others on the screen. Were there any surprises? Due to the concept of the whole show and the number of hits, there was not much room for them, but the almost acoustic version of “Drunk” pleased, when Tennant grabbed acoustic guitars, Lowe ostentatiously left the stage and we even got a guitar solo from the accompanying musician. At the Pet Shop Boys concert! Everyone, even though it was only the second concert of the tour, was also really relaxed. Tennant clearly enjoyed the audience and couldn’t help but feel Low, who sometimes dropped out of the role, and when his longtime colleague called “What Have I Done to Deserve This?” he spun around the lamp, laughing openly. And people with him. The Pet Shop Boys in Vienna showed a clear overview of how a set full of hits can be managed even at their age and without any nostalgia that could easily creep up on stage. Maybe the live versions of “It’s Alright” or “Vocal” didn’t work one hundred percent that night, but the gentlemen will definitely catch it for the Prague concert. Or the fans will come to their aid more – the Viennese were a little stiff, after all, even though they had to let them sing from their lungs.
